I’ve fished Argentina half a dozen times before, but always in northern Patagonia so I had no clear idea of what to expect from Far End River Lodge and the Irigoyen River. Now that I’ve been there, where do I start? Accomodations were excellent (clean, simple rooms where everything works) and the food superb. The staff were all attentive and a pleasure to deal with. And the guides are outstanding. It’s hard for someone my age to fathom how guys that have been alive for less time than I’ve been fishing have come to know a fish (sea run brown trout) and a river so well. Nico, Alex, and Packet are all top notch. Having covered the lodge and the staff, that leaves only the river and the fish. Again, this was my first encounter with sea run browns, but I can assure you that the Irigoyen delivered. Catching fresh sea run browns on a one-hand rod in a river smaller than my home water here in SE Wyoming was absolutely amazing. In fact I’d call it a “once in a lifetime” experience but that would be a lie, because I’ll be backKeith M. - New York
My husband and I went with Faraway fly fishing to northern Argentina to fish for golden dorado in the Parana River. It was an amazing adventure. From the clean, simple food and lodging to the aerial acrobatics of huge dorado, the experience could not have been better.
From the moment we arrived in country to the moment we left, the trip was well organized and ran to perfection. The Argentinean guides were personable, knowledgeable, helpful, and fun. The fish were cooperative, offering ample casting opportunities, sometimes even to pacu we could see feeding under overhanging branches. The take of the dorado—slurping up the fly, jumping, and flashing golden—was memorable.

The lodge was an hacienda on a beautiful old operating cattle estate with a swimming pool and scenic grounds. The food was perfectly prepared and served family style; relaxing over drinks on a veranda overlooking the estancia was a fitting way to end each day.
This was one of those fly fishing adventures we will never forget because the fishing, the lodging, the food, the scenery, the people, the fullness of each day—everything left us smiling.Annie V. - Sanibel, FL

We had a great time fishing for Golden Dorado with Barrett in Argentina….even though the water was high, we all caught Dorado and a bunch of other neat fish too….the guides were always positive and cheerful, the lodge was clean, interesting with very good food. As you know I’ve fished all over the world and this Dorado trip was right up there with the best….looking forward to coming back sometime when the water level is lower… the golder dorado is about the strongest fighting fish I’ve ever caught….the take is explosive, they jump and fight all the way to the boat…thanks for the opportunity to experience themChris C.
I’ve fished all over the world in some of the best lodges, and I can honestly say that my trip to Argentina was so expertly planned and executed by the Faraway Fly Fishing team that it ranks up with the best fishing experiences of my life. We did sea trout, rainbow trout, and dorado all in the same trip! The guides were great, the accommodations top notch, and excellent customer service throughout. Couldn’t recommend them any higherJohn S.
I caught the biggest fish of my life at Kooi Noom with Nico and Alex. They are the epitome of expert guides – super knowledgable, know when to give you space and when to offer help, and just plain awesome guys to hang out with. I’ll go with them again in a heartbeat! Stephen C. - Vancouver, CA
It seems like all the fly fishing travel “agents” out there offer the same service and sell the same destinations, despite the fact that their “experts” often have only visited a destination once or twice! The cool thing about the Faraway team is that they have actually lived and guided in many destinations in Argentina, and will offer you a zero BS, expert opinion of what to really expect. For my money, I’ll take a trip through Faraway before anyone else. Adam B., Boise, Idaho
We traveled to Argentina with Barrett on a hosted trip to the Rio Grande. Despite the high winds, we had incredible fishing. The lodge, meals, and overall experience was simply amazing. The night out in Buenos Aires to an unbelievable steakhouse on Barrett’s recommendation was the perfect end to a perfect trip. Calvin F. Bellingham, WA
