A Historic Farm in Southeast Iceland
Battle Hill Lodge is a renovated farmhouse set on a historic farm in the Southeast of Iceland, in the Skaftafellssyssla region. Although the lodge sits roughly 1 km from Ring Road No. 1, making it easily accessible, it still feels completely isolated. In fact, right from the front door, you can see the Bruna Hraun lava field, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and beyond it, Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. For thousands of years, meanwhile, native sea trout have lived in these rivers, surviving volcanic eruptions and lava flows. As a result, they have become a uniquely resilient and hard-fighting fish.
Rivers Open to Anglers for the First Time
For decades, these rivers were in the hands of local fishing clubs and therefore closed to outside anglers. Recently, however, that has changed with a new lease between Fish Partner and the landowners. Consequently, Iceland’s best sea trout fisheries are now open to international anglers for the first time.
