General Description
After more than a decade developing the famous Glacier King program at Estancia Cristina — where the Faraway team learned king salmon fishing from the ground up — they spent six years scouting, studying, and developing a consistent program on a new and far less known river: the Guanaco. The result is one of the most remote and spectacular king salmon fisheries in the world, based out of Estancia La Sofía in partnership with its owner, Sebastián Corigliano.
The Guanaco River is a hidden gem in Southern Patagonia. Approximately 55 miles long, it originates inside Glaciar National Park and flows into the vast Lake Viedma — all of it essentially off the radar. This is not just a prolific king salmon fishery. It is a genuine wilderness experience: pumas, condors, guanacos, and rheas share the most spectacular canyon in the region, with sweeping views of the Andes rising above a yellow Patagonian plateau. A unique destination for serious anglers and nature lovers alike.

The river: A medium-small mountain river with cold, variable waters depending on rainfall at its source. More than 17 kilometers of private water with zero outside fishing pressure. A variety of pool structures spread across the property, all reachable by 4×4 — the furthest beat is roughly 35 minutes from the ranch house.
Peak conditions: December and January. Salmon arrive in excellent condition during these months, with many specimens completely silver fresh from the ocean.
