Dear anglers,
Another great season has finished at Kooi Noom. Thanks to all the ones that visited us and fish in one of the newest Lodges in Patagonia.
We are glad to say that fishing has been very consistant trough out the season with many big fish landed and some surprises. Like the 24 pounds fish landed by Larry from Alabama, in the Upper Capitan or the massive Chrome of 22 pounds landed by Bob from San Francisco at Quiroga lake. There´s also been some improvements in the ranch and people has been very pleased with the building of new cabins at two of our main beats, now there´s always a place to warm up or get away from the wind for a while.
The overall fishing at Kooi Noom.
The Quiroga lake and the Upper rio Capitan fished extremely well from November until late January, fish averaging 10 pounds were caught daily in good amounts. At the Upper Capitan and the Outlet there were four main pools that concentrate most of the fish, all coming from the lake. Even if the weather was rough some days, the anglers did´t even hesitate going to the upper Capitan to catch one of those trophys. Floating lines, long leaders and Streamers/nimphs were mostly used.
Middle and Lower section of Capitan got on fire by the beggining of January until the very end of the season (April). Lots of resident rainbows up to 5 pounds and good numbers of migratory fish staying after spawning, some of these are well over 12 pounds. Almost all of the fishing was by sight and anglers loved it. For people who likes to walk, wade and fish in pocket water, this is amongst their favorite beats.
Lago del Toro area fished very well trough out the hole season, being the fish on their best shape after January -the fish at this Lake are very active and they spend the day feeding on small Chrustaceans- It was not unusual to catch 10+ fish per session on mix of techniques, Nimphs, small streamers were often used but with prefect conditions dry fly fishing at it best. Ones these fish are hooked, they give their best to go away with long runs and Jumps. . Most of the fish wheight 4 to 6 pounds.
Thanks for joining us at Kooi Noom in our second season, and looking foward to see you on the next!
Tight Lines!!
